Relaxed Performances

Dec 17, 2019 - Jun 14, 2020 | Segal Theatre

The Segal Centre is offering two special relaxed performances during the 2019-2020 season.

A Relaxed Performance is designed to make the theatre space more comfortable and welcoming to audience members who will benefit from a more relaxed sensory experience and casual environment, including (but not limited to) patrons living with Autism, a sensory processing disorder, or a learning disability.

This performance is for patrons of all ages and abilities, other audience members who may benefit from relaxed performances include young children, people who experience anxiety, or people who are not comfortable with the conventions of a traditional theatre space. There will be a more relaxed attitude to noise and movement within the theatre during the performance.

Some minor production changes may be made to reduce the intensity of light, sound and other potentially startling effects. Additional support tools will also be made available, such as visual stories, virtual tours, and familiarization visits.

Please take a moment to note that this performance is the same production as all other performances with a few adjustments.

  • If you need, you may move around and/or exit the theatre and return to your seat at any time. If you need help, ask an usher.
  • The house lights in the theatre will stay on at a low intensity.
  • If needed, you may wear noise cancelling headphones or earplugs. If you do not have your own, an usher will be happy to supply them to you.
  • For those in need of a Quiet Space, there is one available outside of the theatre.
  • You may speak at a low level to those sitting with you.
  • In order to know more about what to expect during the performance, please take a look at the Visual Story specific to the show you are coming to see, which you can find on the show page (see images below). A printed copy of each will also be available at the Segal Centre box office.
  • If you would like to visit the Segal Centre before the show, you can book a visit by calling 514.739.7944.
  • The underground, indoor parking lot at the YM-YWHA (5400 Westbury Avenue) will be open and available for you to park on that night. However, please note that the Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA is getting an upgrade and currently undergoing major renovations that will affect access to the Segal from the Y parking lot (more details here).

We have decided to use PFL based on the recommendations of experts in accessibility and inclusion. We have also consulted with people within the community. We are aware of the dynamic and changing nature of language. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at
